Creating Your Dental Impression: The Most Important Step

We offer full Impression Kits that you can complete at home and return to us.

These contain two singular attempts for both upper and lower.

What's Included in Your Mould Kit:

2 sets of Base and Catalyst Putty
2 Mouth Trays- upper and lower (general size)
1 × 5ml Light Body Syringe + 2 mixing tips
Order form (please fill out all details)

Important: Remove all mouth and oral piercings before starting. Read the full instructions before starting

Step 1: Choose the Tray and Mix the Putty (30 Seconds)

Find the Right Tray: Select the tray required either the upper or lower depedant on design.

Mix Quickly: Mix one Base (white - Putty A) and one Catalyst (Blue- Putty B ) until the colour is uniform — this should take no more than 30 seconds.

Work quickly; if you take too long, the putty will start to harden and become unusable. The faster the putty is mixed, the more detailed the impression.

Step 2: Shape and Place the Putty

Shape the Putty: Roll the putty into a chunky log shape that fits evenly in the tray.

Position Carefully: Place the putty into the tray, ensuring it’s evenly spread so that your teeth go directly into it.

It's important that both the back and front gumlines are visible in the final mould for us to work from.

Step 3: Take the Impression

Insert the Tray: Use a mirror to help line up the tray with your teeth. Ensure your teeth are centred and push the tray directly onto your teeth.

DO NOT BITE,PUSH ONLY - Set your timer for 7 minutes.

Apply Even and Firm Pressure: Don’t bite down. For upper impressions, press the tray upwards; for lower impressions, press downwards with your fingers.

You can lean your elbows on a table to help stay steady. Avoid talking or moving so we get an accurate impression.

Step 4: Wait and Remove (7 Minutes)

Hold the Position: Stay still and keep your hands on the tray. Wait 7 minutes without moving or talking to let the putty fully set.

Gently Remove: Slowly lift the tray away from your teeth vertically. Do not remove the putty from the tray.

Step 5: Reinsert Your Tray

Practice: Use a mirror to help line up the tray — it’s important that you reinsert it in the exact same position, so practice first.

Push firmly until your putty mould slots back into place.

Unlock the Syringe: Move the tip of the syringe vertically until it unlocks — you should hear it click and it will straighten to allow the Light Body to flow.

Step 6: Apply the Light Body Syringe

Fill the Mould: Fill the putty impression with the contents of the syringe, ensuring the teeth you'd like the caps on are fully covered with the light body material.

Do not use the whole syringe as you may need to use it again. If you use too much of the liquid it may not set properly.

Set a Timer: Set a timer for 3 minute 30 seconds.

Step 7: Remove the Tray

Gently Remove the Tray: This time, the tray will be harder to remove — don’t panic! Gently rock it side to side until it releases.

Step 8: Quality Check

Send a Photo: Take a few clear and up close pictures of your impression and circle the teeth (Gum line) that will be having Grillz.

Send them to us via Instagram @__familyjewels__ or email info@thefamily-jewels.com with your order number.

Make sure the gum line is clearly visible in the photo.

Follow Instructions: Use the additional putty only if we ask you to retake the impression.

If approved, return your mold impressions and order form via tracked mail so you can see when it arrives with us.

Production timelines:

Your ETA will begin once we receive your mould in-store. For complex designs, this will begin once you have confirmed the wax work or CAD design.

Reminder: Make sure you have fully filled out the order form with all the correct details and selected the correct teeth. We will use this form to work from.

Step 9: Return Your Impression

Package and Post: Place the tray with your impression and the order form into the plastic bag and post it to:
